Diode Laser Treatment
Safe, Comfortable, and Effective Soft-Tissue Laser Treatment
Dr. Stanley Williamson is a Certified soft-tissue laser treatment specialist, using advanced diode laser technology to enhance your smile and your orthodontic experience. Dr. Williamson has over 3 years of experience with this new laser for orthodontics.
What is Diode Laser Treatment?
Diode laser treatment provides several benefits for patients receiving orthodontic care. By using a specialized diode laser, Dr. Williamson is able to safely, and effectively remove excess gum tissue in order to expose more of the tooth's surface for better esthetics and function. It is also used to place a brace on a tooth sooner to help gently guide the tooth into position. Your gum tissue serves as a "frame" for your teeth. Orthodontic lasers are used to sculpt the gums around the teeth and in a way that helps improve the overall appearance of your smile. The laser is used to help improve your oral health while wearing braces, and reduce the risk of decalcification. It can be used to improve the appearance of your gums and teeth after braces are removed.
How Does the Diode Laser Work?
The diode laser emits a ray of concentrated energy that delivers a narrow pulse, which removes very small areas of gum tissue. Many patients treated with the laser are surprised to find that there is no discomfort during or after the procedure. Dr. Williamson uses a topical anesthetic before beginning the procedure, and the actual treatment takes only a few minutes. No shots are needed for most procedures. If more anesthesia is needed for a procedure, we can use a special squirt-gun to squirt anesthetic to numb only the local area. The advantages of laser are:
- Faster and more efficient orthodontic treatment
- Increased comfort and faster recovery
- Safe
- Less invasive - no bleeding or sutures
- Preserves the health of teeth and gums
Is Laser Treatment Safe?
Laser orthodontic treatment is extremely safe, and effective. Dr. Williamson will be able to determine if laser treatment is necessary by providing you with a complimentary orthodontic exam and consultation. Dr. Williamson instructs laser use to the Orthodontic residents at the University of Minnesota.
